5 survivors rescued from ruins 204 hours after Turkey quake

: At least five people were rescued from the ruins of an earthquake in Turkey today, local media reported, eight days after the worst earthquake in the country’s modern history. .

A woman and a man were rescued from the ruins of the southern city of Hatay about 204 hours after the earthquake hit the region and part of northwestern Syria, Turkish state media said. Earlier on Tuesday, an 18-year-old man named Muhammed Cafer was rescued from the ruins of a house in southern Turkey about 198 hours after last Monday’s earthquake, CNN Turk television reported. In Turkey’s Adiyman province, media showed rescuers carrying Cafer strapped to a stretcher, an oxygen mask on his face and a paramedic holding an IV bag, from the site of a collapsed building in a van emergency awaits.

Cafer can be seen twiddling his thumbs as he is taken away. Shortly before, rescuers had pulled two brothers alive from the ruins of a building in the neighboring province of Kahramanmaras.

The state-run Anadolu news agency identified them as Muhammed Enes Yeninar, 17, and his brother, Baki Yeninar, 21, who was rescued after him. Both were placed in an ambulance and taken to the hospital. Their status is unclear. The death toll in neighboring Turkey and Syria from this disaster is over 37,000.
